Investment opportunities in Adamawa State

Adamawa State, with Yola as its capital shares a common boundary with Bauchi State and the Cameroon Republic. With a land area of 42,159 square kilometres, it ranks among the largest states in the country.

Its vast untapped agricultural potentials are assets to investors in search of viable ventures.  Adamawa indigenes are mostly farmers. They cultivate a variety of cash crops such as groundnuts, cotton, coffee, tea, and food crops such as maize, millet and guinea corn in commercial quantities. The involvement of more than 80 percent of the inhabitants in farming and animal husbandry informs the decision of the state government in according top priority to agriculture.

Adamawa State is one of the leading states in the federation in terms of livestock production. The state is an important breeding region for cattle, sheep and goats. The government, being conscious of this potential, pays special attention to the control of livestock diseases. Farming is undertaken by the people around Lake Gerio, the Benue River Valley. Fishing is also carried out at Lakes Gerio and Njima and at River Benue.

The state government pays attention to bulk purchase of grains. The grains are stored in anticipation of period of scarcity. It is also involved in seed multiplication programme to boost agricultural production in the state.

Industrial potentials:

Adamawa State possesses tremendous industrial potentials because abundant agricultural and natural resources in the state can support industries of any category. One of the key social and economic objectives of the state government is the promotion of industrial development of the state through use of locally sourced raw materials and provision f basic infrastructure and attract investors especially in the agro allied ventures in the state.

Located in the state are a number of agro-allied industries such as Afcot (Nig) Limited, Inter-State Flour Mills and Nagge products in Yola, and Savannah Sugar Company, Numan, whose raw materials are sourced locally.

Mubi burnt Bricks Industry utilises rich and abundant deposit of clay sourced from Mubi local government Area. It has an installed capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes of brick per year. When producing at full capacity, it will contribute tremendously to the realisation of the Federal governments housing programme.

Cottage industries are also considered the major thrust of the states rural industrialisation efforts. The Gombi chalk industry is top on the cottage industries in Adamawa state. The industry has an installed capacity of 280,000 packets of chalk yearly.

Other important cottage industries in Adamawa state which are results of joint public and private efforts are beverages production industry in Yola, Stone crushing plant, Yola, Animal feeds Mills at Michika, vegetable oil mills at Mubi and office stationery manufacturing industry with complete electro-plating unit in Yola. There are also the Animal Feeds Concentrates Industry at Mayo Belwa and the proposed Cement Industry at Guyuk.

There are also investment opportunities in solid minerals in the state. Minerals such as gypsum, limestone, magnesite, laterite, bentonitic clay are found in large quantities in the state.

There are some premier private business enterprises, which are prominent because of their massive contribution to the industrial development of the state. These include: B.H.I Groups, Bajabure Industrial Complex, Faro Bottling company, Inter state flour mills, stainless Furniture company, Haske Furniture among others.

Tourism

The state has a lot of tourism attractions, including the Mambilla plateau, the Gumpt/Ghashaka National park and games reserves. The park, which is part of the vast Adamawa chains, has a beautiful landscape and ideal climate. There is also the Kiri Dam with beautiful scenery, Bwasu hot spring, popularly known as Ruwan Zaffi among others.
