Cross River State with its capital at Calabar occupies a land area of about 23,074 square kilometres with a population of 1.8 million people. The geographical location of the state is an asset in terms of its forest resources and potentials, which could enhance the economic and industrial development of the state. Investment potentials
The state is endowed with abundant natural resources. Economically valuable wood species like Iroko, Mahogany and Aphara abound in Cross River forests. It has valuable rocks, gravel, clay, limestone, rich laterite and such minerals as tin, manganese, gold, uranium and petroleum. An optimal exploitation of these resources would ensure a rapid industrialisation of the state.
The waters of Cross River State, particularly its ponds, lakes, rivers and continental shelf, flourish with various species of fish, among which are barracuda, bonga, fleshing, mackerel and shrimps.
As a rich agricultural area, the State has a variety of foods and cash crops, especially yams, cassava, melon, millet, rice, vegetables, beans and cocoyams. Fruits such as citrus, guava, coconuts, mangoes and paw-paw are also produced in large quantities. Cash crops like cocoa, palm nuts and rubber are also produced in the state.
The state also has a cattle ranch located at Obudu.
