Investment opportunities in Delta State

Delta State is one of Nigerias wealthy geographical entities. Deltas administrative capital is Asaba. Other key cities in Delta are Warri, Sapele and Koko, which are seaports. Warri, also a naval base like Sapele, has Nigerias second largest oil refinery.

Delta is richly endowed with human, material and natural resources. Indeed, it is a land of abundant resources and skills. It has a huge deposit of crude oil and other mineral resources, and is part of the crude oil and gas rich area of Nigeria called the Niger-Delta. Delta is also located within the tropical region such that a large body of water, arable land with a rich variety of soil and conducive climate are readily available to the pleasure seeking tourists, industrialists, exporters of raw materials and manufacturers.

Apart from crude oil, Delta has other natural resources such as Gypsum, lignite, marble, silica, Kaolin.

Agriculture is the backbone of the states economy as it provides food for the people and raw materials for industries, which are mostly in the cities. Food crops such as cassava, yam, maize, plantain, groundnut, palm oil and beans are produced in the state. Investors can utilise them to produce salad, mayonnaise and cocoa creams as well as fancy clothes and detergent

Palm fruits, oil and kernel, are important and are available in large quantities in the state. Animal husbandary, such as piggery, rabbitery and poultry are also practised in the state. A wild variety of wildlife such as chimpanzees, gorillas, snakes, monkeys and antelopes abound in the states forest and vegetation. The rivers creeks and coastal waters breed large quantities and many species of shrimps, fish, lobster, tortoise, hippopotamus and other aquatic life.

However, peasant farming is mostly practised in Delta using old-fashioned tools and techniques. Thus investors can tap its vast agricultural potentials profitably, especially in the area of large-scale mechanised farming and modern animal rearing.

Commerce and industry:

Laying a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth is the major industrial policy objective of the Delta State government. To attain this, the government promotes industrial projects through provision of necessary infrastructure. Delta has attractive industries because of the presence of abundance minerals, especially in oil, agricultural products and ports.
