Farming and mining provide employment for most of the people of Edo State because of the presence of mineral and agricultural resources in the area. Foreign firms are also involved in mining activities.

Edo State is an oil producing area. Other mineral resources found in the state include silica, kaolin, dolomite, granite, limestone and gold. Some of the mineral resources are being explored while others are being investigated. Some mining and quarrying companies have title-leases in Edo State.
