Investment opportunities in Osun State

With agriculture as the traditional occupation of the people of Osun state, it is not in doubt that the state produces large quantities of agricultural products for agro-allied industries.

Its on record that more than 75 per cent of Osun State inhabitants are farmers. Consequently, such cash crops as cocoa and palm produce are produced in commercial quantities in the state. The cash crops are raw materials for any industry that manufactures cocoa and chocolate based products. The establishment of cocoa processing industry in Osun State will definitely boost the agricultural development of the state. Also, due to the large concentration of palm trees, Osun State is indeed a viable zone for vegetable oil processing industry. In addition, with the abundance of forest, Osun State is a haven for any wood-based industry.

The state also produces in commercial quantities such as food crops as yam, maize, cassava, millet, plantain and rice as well as a variety of fruits. In this vein, Osun state can conveniently serve the raw material needs of fruit and rice processing industries. Cocoa and Kolanut are also grown and marketed in large scale in the state.

Mineral Resources

In the area of mineral resources, there have been discoveries of various mineral deposits at different locations in Osun state. The most prominent of the minerals is gold which is found in commercial quantities in parts of Ilesa in Ilesa local government area. This mineral is already being exploited. Other important mineral deposits in the state include Nickel found in various parts of Ile-Ife and Ilesa. Talc, a raw material in the manufacture of fillers in paints, ceramics, cosmetics, paper, textile, plastic and rubber is also found in Ife. Potash occurs in Osogbo. The state also has dolomite, limestone, clay.

Commerce and Industry

Osogbo, the Osun state capital, has long served as the industrial nerve centre of western Nigeria. This is occasioned by the presence of two federal ministry industrial projects the Osogbo Steel Rolling mills and the Nigeria Machine Tools. This has facilitated the spring up of privately owned industries including the International Breweries and the Supreme Oil. The state government has also developed various industrial estates in Osogbo, Ilesa, Iwo, Ile-Ife, Ede and Ikirun Zones of the State.
